At Carter Design, we believe a home should be more than visually appealing - it should be a living archive of the people who inhabit it. Our design philosophy is rooted in the idea that every space carries a narrative shaped by memory, identity, and objects of passion.
Rather than imposing a singular aesthetic, we work collaboratively with clients to uncover the histories, values, and experiences that make their homes uniquely theirs. Tawnessa Carter is the founder and principal designer of Carter Design. Her work is defined by a maximalist, color‑rich and pattern-infused aesthetic that honours history, craftsmanship, and the beauty of collected objects.
With a design approach rooted in narrative, Tawnessa builds interiors shaped by personal stories, global influences, and a thoughtful mix of vintage and custom pieces. She is known for her ability to curate environments that look as though they have evolved over time, blending bold palettes, rich textures, and artisan details into cohesive, expressive homes.
Tawnessa graduated from Sheridan College’s Interior Design program in 2012. She began her career at the prestigious Toronto-based firm, Gluckstein Design, where she interned as a Design Assistant supporting senior designers with luxury residential projects.
She went on to work at Professional Design Solutions Inc, where she collaborated and led design projects through space planning, construction documentation, product sourcing, client support and project management. Her work there strengthened her understanding of how to translate design concepts into functional, beautifully executed spaces on time and on-budget.
In 2015 she opened Carter Design bringing her unique maximalist, vintage-rich aesthetic to residential projects all over Southwestern Ontario.
